Toespraak Benoit Mottrie, voorzitter van de Last Post Association, op de prijsuitreking op 11\/11\/2010.<\/em><\/span><\/p>

Geachte heer burgemeester,
Mijnheer de Gouverneur,
Your Excellencies,
Dames, Mijne heren,
Ladies & Gentlemen,<\/p>

Dit jaar werd voor de 15\u00b0 maal de Last Post Opstelwedstrijd georganiseerd. De titel luidde: 1e dag van gasaanval: 22 april 1915. Naast een opstel, kon dit jaar ook gekozen worden voor een grafisch, beeldend werk. Het aantal scholen werd uitgebreid naar alle scholen van de provincie.<\/p>

De doelstelling blijft identiek: Het bewust maken en mobiliseren van de jongeren. Zij zijn het immers die in de komende jaren de geschiedenis en vooral het offer van de duizenden en duizenden slachtoffer van wereldoorlog in het collectief geheugen moeten blijven griffen.<\/p>

The main aim of this International Competition is to keep alive, among the younger generation, the sacrifices of all those who fought and often died in the defense of freedom and democracy in the Ypres Salient. These young competitors are the ones to whom today’s generation will one day pass the torch of remembrance and this competition is one of our ways to prepare them for this task.<\/p>

Namens de Last Post Association wil ik iedereen bedanken die de editie 2010 heeft doen slagen: Deput\u00e9 Gunther Pertry voor zijn stuwende kracht in het opentrekken van de wedstrijd naar zowel opstel als beeldende kunst en het uitbreiden naar de ganse provincie, de Vlaamse Regering, de Gouverneur van West-Vlaanderen Paul Breyne, het Provinciebestuur van West- Vlaanderen, het Ieperse stadsbestuur en Dave Calvert.<\/p>

Ook het stille, onderlegde en concientieuze werk van het correctorenteam mag even vermeld. Zonder de volgende mensen was er vandaag gewoon geen prijsuitreiking. Veel dank Fr\u00e9deric Demeyere, Eric Huyghe en Jan Vandenbulcke<\/p>
