02/07/2024 - Speech by Benoit Mottrie, Chairman of the Last Post Association
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We gather here tonight under the solemn embrace of the Last Post Ceremony, a time when we pause to reflect, remember, and pay tribute to those who have given their life in service.
This evening, we are honored to welcome the Band of the Grenadier Guards. Their presence here tonight enriches this sacred moment, and we are deeply grateful for their participation.
The music carries the weight of history and respect, embodying the spirit of remembrance that we hold dear.
However, we must also acknowledge a profound loss. Today, we learned of the passing of Major Holt, a man who dedicated his life to preserving the memory of those who fought on these battlefields.
As the founder of the battlefield tours, and a lifelong friend and a Lifetime member of the Last Post Association, Major Holt’s passion for history, dedication to remembrance, and unwavering friendship will be sorely missed.
His work ensured that future generations would never forget the sacrifices made here, and for that, we owe him our deepest gratitude.
Tonight, as the bugle sounds, let us remember Major Holt and the legacy he leaves behind. His spirit will remain with us in this place of eternal remembrance.
Thank you.
