Remembrance Day – 11/11/2020

The special Last Post at 11,00 hrs on Armistice Day will take place, but this according to the applicable COVID-19 measures.

On Armistice Day, 11th November 2020, a special Last Post will take place at 11.00 AM.

Due to COVID-19, social distance is applicable and therefore the tickets for our lifetime members and members are very restricted. Members of the Last Post Association who would like to be present at the 11,00 hrs ceremony are kindly asked to request their tickets through info@lastpost.be.

In short:

  • tickets to be requested only through info@lastpost.be
  • member = lifetime member or your last membership contribution is not older than 01/10/2019.
  • max. 2 tickets per member
  • according to the principle ‘first come, first served’
  • there are only 150 tickets available
  • once all the tickets are taken, there’s an additional possibility to follow the ceremony on the big screen on the Ypres’ Market Square.

Members who have already submitted their own prior request and have been allocated tickets, need not apply again.

Poppy parade

All participants in the Poppy Parade prior to the 11 o’clock ceremony on 11/11/2020 are requested to register through the Ypres’ Tourist Office website. Wreath-layers will be allowed access to the area at the Menin Gate specially reserved for them.

Ceremony at 20,00 hrs on 10/11 and 11/11

The Royal Ypriana Wind Band will participate in the ceremony on 11/11 at 20,00 hrs.

The evening ceremonies on 10/11 & 11/11 will be accessible to all members of the public. Due to the applicable social distance, places will be limited and access to the Menin Gate will be closed as soon as all places are occupied. No reservations possible.

Please note: The information above can be changed in case new COVID-19 measures become applicable. Please visit our website on a regular basis for any updates.

New Ambassador New Zealand

The Last Post Association was deligthed to welcome Her Excellency Ambassador Diana Reaich of New Zealand on Wednesday 7 October 2020. She laid a wreath and paid her respects at the Menin Gate in Ieper in her first official engagement as New Zealand Ambassador to Belgium. She was accompanied by Defence Attaché Col Rian McKinstry.

Update COVID 19: public attendance

Until further notice, max. 200 members of the public are now allowed to attend the Last Post Ceremony, with strict social distancing of 1.5 metres under the Menin Gate. The reservation of places in advance is not possible: first come, first served.

Many thanks in advance to everyone for his/her co-operation in ensuring full compliance. People or groups who wish to lay a wreath should apply in the usual manner, using the form on our website.

The LPA needs your support

The Last Post Association is an independent, voluntary, non-profit organisation. It was the Association that first founded the Last Post Ceremony back in 1928, and it is the Association that is still responsible for the day-to-day organisation of this unique act of homage. A (lifetime) membership of the Last Post Association offers you an opportunity to support us and helps people to remember and understand the meaning of our daily tribute.

Watch our short videos and learn why these members support the Last Post Association.

Do you also want to become a member and support us?

You can also order: the LPA lapel badge, the LPA CD or the LPA tie.

Concert TGWR 2020 cancelled

Due to the coronavirus, the Last Post Association has decided to cancel the 2020 edition of the Great War Remembered Concert on Armistice 2020. The concert is one of the main fundraising activities for the Last Post Association and the full capacity of the Ypres’ cathedral is absolutely necessary. The Last Post Association would like to thank you for your comprehension and looks forward, together with you, to the edition 2021 of the concert.

However, you don’t need to miss the concert. Order your copy of DVD of the concert 2015 and/or 2018 and enjoy the concert at home.

Thank you !
